About the Workshops
The goal of the Family Caregiver Workshops is to introduce family caregivers to basic caregiving skills needed to provide quality care for an aging family member. The training combines content from a number of sources including standards and guidelines from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Available Workshops
Our family caregiver classes are offered in two free four-hour workshops, one on the physical skills of caring for an older adult and the other on caring for a person with Alzheimer’s/dementia.
Physical Skills
The Physical Skills workshop covers topics including the following:

- Mobility
- Caregiver stress

- Activities of daily living
Caring for the Person with Dementia
The Caring for the Person with Dementia workshop covers topics including the following:
- Overview of Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease
- Communication techniques
- Understanding behaviors
- Activities
- Nutrition and hydration
- Caregiver stress
- Maintaining respect, dignity, and quality of life
