Delta Center on Aging

The Delta Center on Aging (DCOA) provides quality senior health care, education and support services to professionals, older adults, family members and caregivers in the communities of the Arkansas Delta. Through its expert and professional care for older adults, their families, caregivers and professionals in Arkansas as well as in Tennessee and Mississippi, DCOA is improving the quality of life and health outcomes for all concerned.

The Senior Health Center, owned and operated by CrittendenRegional Hospital, is a unique regional facility, located in West Memphis with easy access from Tennessee and Mississippi. A board-certified geriatrician with a cadre of qualified professionals directs medical care and clinical support services. This busy clinical practice had more than 2,600 senior health clinic visits over the past two years. DCOA’s regional facility maintains the only House Calls medical care program in the three-state region DCOA serves, providing expert medical care for the homebound elderly. For patients who cannot leave their homes because of lack of transportation, DCOA provides qualified professionals to visit them in their homes.

A full range of educational programs are offered through DCOA’s education center in West Memphis and Helena – West Helena, Arkansas. In fact, it is the Helena – West Helena location that boasts a state-of-the-art health and wellness facility, teaching older adults along the banks of the Mississippi River how to strengthen their bodies, enjoy their creativity, manage their chronic diseases and age successfully. The Education Center meets the educational needs of the older adults with disease management programs, exercise and support groups. In West Memphis, the Education Center is located adjacent to the Senior Health Clinic and the Helena – West Helena outreach site occupies space provided by the Helena Health Foundation and the Delta AHEC.  Together these two sites had more than 30,000 educational encounters over the past two years. DCOA leveraged $49,699 in money, time and in-kind services in 2008 and 2009.

Delta Center on Aging serves five counties in eastern Arkansas:
Crittenden, St. Francis, Desha, Chicot and Phillips.
